Fringing has been big for a few seasons, thanks to the boho revival (led by Chemena Kamali at Chloé) as well as Gen-Z’s recent obsession with the cowboy aesthetic (that burst onto our cultural radar during Beyoncé’s 2025 Cowboy Carter world tour).
For SS26, however, brands are offering a more grown-up twist on the trend, making it feel wearable for all ages. ALAÏA paired fringed stocking boots with minimalist suiting in neutral colourways, while Altuzarra added chunky fringing to the bottom of cosy knitwear, giving the trend a quiet luxury feel.

Even Anna Wintour gave the trend her sought-after nod of approval, when she attended the recent Chanel Haute Couture show in a check maxi coat adorned with (albeit subtle) fringing along the neckline and hem.
On the high street, no one has quite such a diverse fringe offering than Free People. Laid back, bohemian style is their thing, after all. Alternatively, you can’t beat ASOS for more affordable options and Whistles’ collection is full of fringing this season.

When embracing the trend, make sure to keep the rest of your outfit pared back to avoid looking like you’re wearing fancy dress. To keep it feeling sophisticated, make like the ALAÏA show and try a single fringe item with chic, minimalist pieces like crisp white shirts and column dresses. Stick to neutral shades, too, for a guaranteed win. Bright colours plus fringing can quickly feel overwhelming!

- Balance tactile, statement fringing with structured pieces like jeans or suiting.
