From track to concrete: Fila reimagines sportswear in the city for AW26

Eight years ago, Fila became one of the first sportswear brands to be on the official Milan Fashion Week schedule. In the time since, the worlds between fashion on runways and sportswear have continued to merge together. Season after season, more performancewear brands have discovered new, innovative ways to bring the technicality of functional design into garments for everyday life.

Having taken a break from the schedule for a few seasons, over the weekend, Fila presented its AW26 collection, reminding everyone that 115 years in, the brand is still finding ways to reinvent. Designed by the brand’s creative director, Alistair Carr, the AW26 collection brings sports and tailoring together. As the show notes put it, the collection was built for a “wardrobe suited for different moments, occasions and personalities”.

Below, we break down the highlights from the brand’s return to the runway.

The collection approached Milan as an idea more than a literal location. Inspired by the metropolitan environment where different generations, personalities, and lifestyles intersect throughout the day, it was titled “Milano in Motion”.

The collection itself was built around pieces that made sense across a full day in the city. Crombie coats, bombers, parkas, and shirt jackets sat alongside pleated skirts, dresses, tailored trousers, and knitwear. It was the type of lineup designed for constant movement, pieces that could shift easily from morning to evening without feeling out of place.

Despite the tailoring elevating the looks far beyond sportswear, the materials and functional design felt true to Fila’s history of performancewear. Throughout the collection, technical fabrics replaced traditional materials throughout the collection, with familiar sporty textures elevated into more refined versions.

Across the collection, the colours consistently remained grounded in the brand’s familiar palette. Navy, black, khaki, cream, camel and grey form the base, occasionally punctuated by brighter notes of red and electric blue.

Naturally, given their long history in footwear, Fila placed a strong emphasis on the shoes. The trainers in the collection worked to perfectly blend sport and street style, presenting a wardrobe where sleek flat trainers sit right alongside speedy running and cycling shoes, built for life in a city as well as the gym.
