Fury of family of Virginia Giuffre over Ghislaine Maxwell interview as they claim sex trafficker is ‘rewriting history’

The family of Virginia Giuffre reacted with outrage last night at Ghislaine Maxwell’s ‘whitewash’ prison interview, saying it gave her a chance to ‘rewrite history’.
Mother-of-three Ms Giuffre, who claimed she was abused by Jeffrey Epstein and trafficked three times to have sex with Prince Andrew when she was 17, committed suicide in April.
Bombshell audio tapes of convicted sex trafficker Maxwell’s interview with US Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche were released on Friday. In them, Maxwell defends the Duke of York, saying he is innocent of the sex allegations against him and accusing Ms Giuffre of making up the story for financial gain. Andrew has always vehemently denied the claims.
In a statement, Ms Giuffre’s family said: ‘We are outraged. During Blanche’s bizarre interview, she is never challenged about her court-proven lies, providing her a platform to rewrite history.
‘This travesty of justice entirely invalidates the experiences of the many brave survivors who put their safety, security and lives on the line to ensure her conviction.’
In the two-day interview last month, Maxwell, 63, provided no incriminating information on high-profile individuals but spoke about her interactions with several well-known names. Afterwards, Maxwell, who was jailed for 20 years in 2022 for helping Epstein abuse young girls, was moved from the federal prison in Florida to a minimum-security prison camp in Texas.
Blanche was accused of asking Maxwell ‘soft-ball’ questions about Epstein – and failing to challenge her when she made comments that contradicted testimony from the financier’s victims.
Maxwell defended President Trump – whose administration has been rocked by claims of cover-up over the Epstein Files – saying she never heard that he acted inappropriately, ‘absolutely never in any context’. She added that he was ‘a gentleman in all respects’ who was always ‘very cordial and very kind to me’.

John Sweeney, author of Hunting Ghislaine, said: ‘This is a sorry spectacle, where a convicted sex criminal and the US President are using the American machinery of justice to massage each other’s backs. Trump gets whitewashed. Maxwell gets out of [nasty] jail. The losers are the victims of Epstein, under-age or vulnerable girls, and law and order in America.’
Last night a source close to President Trump told The Mail on Sunday: ‘President Trump is delighted that this interview has been released in full. The Epstein Files is a scandal which has been concocted by his political rivals to detract away from the accomplishments of this administration. He hopes giving the world full transparency on this issue will allow people to finally move on.’
Brad Edwards, a lawyer who represents dozens of Epstein victims, said: ‘Sounds like she told crazy stories that can only be made up because she’s telling them to people who don’t know the case.’
Sigrid McCawley, one of Ms Giuffre’s lawyers, said: ‘I sat across the deposition table from Ghislaine Maxwell when she lied repeatedly – one question after the next. We have witnessed that again with the release of Maxwell’s interview where this convicted felon repeatedly and brazenly lied on the record to the government. Maxwell ruined countless young lives with impunity for too long.
‘Her effort to recreate history and distance herself from Epstein should not and will not be tolerated. The documents don’t lie, the multiple witnesses that testified against her at trial didn’t lie – the only person lying is Maxwell.’
