Turkish club Galatasaray will be unable to sell tickets to their supporters for this month’s Champions League fixture at Liverpool, following a UEFA decision to uphold sanctions against the club.
The ban stems from fan misconduct during last week’s trip to Juventus, which included throwing objects, lighting fireworks, and causing general disturbances.
Media reports indicated that a man and his daughter sustained injuries when a firework was launched towards Juventus fans in Turin.
During the dramatic Champions League playoff, Galatasaray secured a 7-5 aggregate victory after scoring twice in extra time against a 10-man Juventus.
In addition to the ticket ban, UEFA’s disciplinary committee also imposed a €40,000 fine on the Turkish champions for their fans’ behaviour.
Galatasaray’s appeal against these penalties was rejected by UEFA’s Appeals Body on Wednesday.
The affected match, where Galatasaray fans will be absent, is the second leg of their Champions League clash at Anfield on 18 March.
Liverpool and Galatasaray will play their first leg in Turkey on 10 March.
The two sides previously met in the league phase of the Champions League, where Galatasaray won 1-0 thanks to a Victor Osimhen penalty.
