HBO Max has issued an explanation after And Just Like That (AJLT) fans clocked a massive, gaping plot hole in its recent season three episode.
This article contains spoilers for And Just Like That season three. You’ve been warned.
And Just Like That plot hole
In true messy Sex and The City style, the big dogs running its spin-off And Just Like That have been called out for a major continuity error in its most recent episode “Silent Mode”.
You see, in this episode, Lisa Todd Wexley (Nicole Ari Parker) revealed to Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) that her father died.
“My father died,” Lisa shared before adding that he passed away in the afternoon.
“This afternoon. He had a stroke out of nowhere.”
Although the scene was an extremely emotional moment between the two characters, viewers noticed that Lisa had already mentioned that her father died… in season one. However, her dad, Lawrence Todd (played by Billy Dee Williams), was seemingly resurrected in season two when he appeared at a dinner party hosted by Lisa.
Naturally, eagle-eyed fans spotted the major oopsie, with one person on X (formerly Twitter) accusing the writers of using ChatGPT to produce AJLT episodes.
“Not the writers giving her dad a sequel death,” one person wrote on X.
“Did ChatGPT write these episodes?” another X user penned alongside screenshots of all three moments Lisa’s dad was mentioned.
Why was Lisa Todd Wexley’s dad killed off twice?
Noticing the backlash, a spokesperson from HBO confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the “dad” Lisa mentioned in season one was her stepdad and not her biological dad, who is Williams’ character, Lawrence Todd.
Jeez. I mean, it’s definitely something that’s possible, but the delivery was not GIVING.
Parker recently addressed the storyline involving Lisa’s dad in an interview with Variety.
“It comes as a surprise, and like any human, losing someone you love is earth-shattering, no matter how old you are,” the actress said.
“It does shake her ground in a way that makes her a little bit more focused — maybe a little hyper-focused. And now her marriage is, you know, not in trouble, but someone else can get her attention in this vulnerable place. So I think the death made her unsteady in a way that she might not even realise.”
The latest episode will drop on Friday, so, And Just Like That fans, get ready to pick that apart, too!
