Horrifying scenes unfold at Rice-Texas State football game as parachutist gets caught in netting and plunges into crowd

This is the terrifying moment a parachutist at the Armed Forces Bowl got caught in the field goal netting and plunged 40 feet into the crowd below.

The scary scenes occurred shortly before kickoff in the Rice-Texas State game, where five parachutists were scheduled to land on the field.

According to video and reports from inside the stadium, only three safely landed where they were supposed to, with one ending up outside the stadium entirely.

It was the fifth jumper that caused the most horrifying scenes, though, as he flew straight into the field goal net cable, where he parachute immediately became tangled.

He was left suspended 40 feet in the air above the crowd for a few seconds, before the parachute came loose and he tumbled down to the ground.

In multiple video recorded by horrified fans, the man appeared to land between the main section of the crowd and the barrier to the field, where he was helped to his feet by bystanders.

A spokesperson for the Armed Forces Bowl confirmed to Daily Mail that the man was thankfully able to walk off under his own power, and nobody was injured on the ground.

The rest of the pregame festivities also passed without incident, including a F35 flyover that sent the crowd wild at the Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth.

In the game itself, 6-6 Texas State took a 7-0 lead before halftime thanks to a rushing touchdown from quarterback Brad Jackson.
