Icarus Acquires Jasmila Žbanić’s ‘Blum: Masters of Their Own Destiny’ Doc For North American Distribution

Icarus Films has acquired North American distribution rights to Blum: Masters of Their Own Destiny.
The documentary follows the life of Bosnian engineer and Holocaust survivor Emerik Blum, who thrived during post-war years in Yugoslavia’s power sector, where he implemented a massive corporate energy and engineering conglomerate in a socialist state during the Cold War.
Archival footage and modern testimonials paint a portrait of Blum as a humane leader and shrewd diplomat whose unconventional vision blended elements of socialism and captialism.
From Bosnian director Jasmila Žbanić, Blum marks her return to the doc format after directing such narrative features in recent years as Love Island (2014), Men Don’t Cry (2017) and her Oscar-nominated drama Where are you going, Aida? (2020).
Most recently, Žbanić directed the Season 1 The Last of Us episode ‘Kin’ in 2023, also releasing her own Bosnian legal drama I Know Your Soul that year.
