Thomas Bezucha — the brains behind the 2005 chaotic Christmas classic — has revealed to CNN that he’s cooking up a follow-up flick and the actors have shown interest in returning!

“I’ve been haunted by the loss of Sybil [Keaton] for months now while I worked on it, and so this was a blow on a tender bruise already,” Bezucha said.

“Mentally, I’ve been spending time in that house where I’ve been missing her for a while already.”

The OG flick starred Diane Keaton alongside Craig T. Nelson, Dermot Mulroney, Sarah Jessica Parker, Luke Wilson, Claire Danes, Rachel McAdams and Tyrone Giordano as a dysfunctional family celebrating Christmas together.

Keaton passed away on October 11 at 79 following a bacterial pneumonia infection, according to her death certificate. Her family later shared a statement thanking fans for the outpouring of love, saying they were “very grateful” for the support during such a heartbreaking time.

Her passing has only made Bezucha more determined to celebrate her legacy, he told CNN. The director said crafting the sequel now feels even more important, adding that he wants to “do a good job by the rest of the cast” and “honour [Keaton] even more”.

Bezucha said he’s been flirting with the idea of a sequel for ages, but he’d only actually pull the trigger if the OG cast were keen to return.

“I’m not interested in the Brady family reunion without the original Jan,” he joked.

According to CNN, the original cast gave “unanimously positive responses” to the filmmaker reaching out about a sequel.

“No one has officially signed on and the film has not yet been officially greenlit, but cast members have acknowledged the project,” he said.

So that sounds promising, I guess!

Keaton’s tragic passing led to an outpouring of love from Hollywood and fans alike, with many people heralding the incredible films she took part in, including The Family Stone.
