While Married At First Sight (MAFS) fans are still reeling over Brook Crompton‘s pregnancy and engagement announcement, the rumour mill is in overdrive over Chris Nield‘s true intentions on the show, with claims that he originally auditioned to compete on another reality TV show.
Since episode one, Chris has made it known that he has no faith in the whole MAFS experience. In fact, during his audition tape, he made fun of the experts and the show’s success rate, which is unfortunately not that golden in comparison to other shows — *cough* Farmer Wants A Wife *cough*.
So, with Chris bagging on the show straight from his audition tape, you’re probably wondering, why the heck did he even sign up?
Well, sources close to production have claimed that he never applied for MAFS in the first place.
Why did Chris Nield join Married At First Sight 2026?
An anonymous source close to production claimed to PEDESTRIAN.TV that Chris had originally auditioned for Australian Survivor, which is run by the same production company that runs MAFS.
“Chris was never chasing love on TV,” an insider claimed.
“He applied for Australia Survivor. MAFS wasn’t even on his radar.”
The insider added that when producers rang Chris about MAFS, the 31-year-old groom was “bored” and “throwing out big opinions about relationships and the show itself”.
“Half joking, half trying to sound interesting and casting absolutely ran with it,” the source continued.

How did Chris get cast on Married At First Sight?
When asked about *why* he chose to go on the show by P.TV — especially with his intense scepticism of the experts — Chris remained coy and simply said he had “a lot of downtime” as he was recovering from a footy injury.
“I was on Hinge and Raya, going through, having a couple of dates here and there. And that’s all. I got to a point where. Where the opportunity came about,” Chris shared.
“I just thought, you know what, why not? Sort of perfect time. Nothing else is really happening in my life. And it was sort of just [the] perfect moment.”
While it’s obvious his reality TV romance with Brook didn’t last — after all, she did just announce her engagement and pregnancy with her ex, Harry — we could speculate that Chris could return to reality TV on Survivor.
And with those dinner parties, that bloke can survive anything!!!
