‘Intentional’ explosion at Harvard Medical School, two people seen running from the building

There was an “intentional” explosion at a Harvard Medical School building early Saturday as two people were seen running from the building, according to police.

No injuries were reported during the explosion at the Ivy League school’s Goldenson building, which is situated in Harvard’s Longwood medical campus.

The incident took place just before 3 a.m. Saturday.

An officer responded and saw two people fleeing from the building after the fire alarm was activated, according to the Harvard University Police Department.

The Boston Fire Department Arson Unit has determined the explosion to be intentional and the FBI is assisting the university police at the scene, according to the Harvard Crimson.

No additional explosive devices were found during a sweep of the building.

The Independent has contacted the Harvard University Police Department for further information.

It has been a difficult year for the elite institution amid a legal battle with the Trump administration but Harvard was still recently named one of the top three universities in the country, along with Princeton and MIT.

Harvard, the oldest institution of higher learning in the U.S., has been locked in a high-stakes clash with the Trump administration over its tax-exempt status, federal research funding, foreign student enrollment, and intellectual property.

In September, a federal judge blocked the administration’s attempt to freeze more than $2 billion in Harvard’s research grants, ruling the move illegal.
