Iran confirms receipt of Su-35 fighters and S-400 systems from Russia

The landing of a giant Russian transport plane in Iran raises speculation about a mysterious military payload.

Arab Defense Website – November 4, 2025: Military relations between Moscow and Tehran witnessed a new development after the Russian An-124 strategic transport plane landed in Iran coming from the Siberian city of Irkutsk, which is a major center for the production of advanced Su-35 fighters.

According to sources following military air traffic, the plane carried an undeclared payload, which sparked a wave of speculation about the nature of the cargo, amid escalating military and technical cooperation between Russia and Iran in light of Western sanctions imposed on both sides.

Analysts believe that the trip may be linked to the transfer of components for the Su-35 fighters previously contracted by Tehran, advanced missile systems, or even logistical support equipment within the framework of the ongoing defense understandings between the two countries.

Iranian officials announced that Iran had received all the Russian weapons it requested, including Su-35 fighters and S-400 air defense systems.

In this context, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed that Moscow “does not face any restrictions on military and technical cooperation with Iran, and is currently continuing to provide it with the equipment it needs,” in a clear reference to the continued delivery of the agreed-upon systems and weapons.

Reports issued since September 2025 reinforce these hypotheses, as Iranian MP Abolfazl Zahrvand revealed that Russia had already delivered MiG-29 fighters to Iran, where they were stationed at Shiraz Air Base. Multiple sources indicate that Su-35 fighters will arrive in the coming weeks, while it is believed that the delivery of the Russian S-400 and Chinese HQ-9 systems is taking place within a broader framework of military cooperation between the two parties, despite the limited independent verification of this information.

While the exact details of these shipments remain not officially announced, observers believe that these moves reflect a strategic shift in the regional balance of power, and indicate an accelerated merger between Russian and Iranian defense industries in the face of Western pressure.
