Dancing With The Stars US‘ casting directors were wise to recruit Aussie hottie Robert Irwin in its latest season because people are paying more attention to it than ever, thanks to all the viral moments the animal activist has prompted, including one last night involving Prince William (???).

During the show’s huge 20th anniversary episode on Tuesday, November 11, viewers got a royal surprise when the Prince of Wales himself popped up on screen. Yep, Prince William beamed in virtually to cheer on his good mate Robert Irwin and his dance partner, Witney Carson, sending them a cheeky message of good luck before they hit the stage.
Because nothing inspires you to kill it on the dancefloor like getting a royal shout-out mid–dance comp.
“Guys, you’ve got a seriously good chance of winning it,” William said during the random-ass FaceTime call shown in the duo’s pre-performance package. “So, just the best of luck on the show.”
The future king couldn’t resist having a little fun, cheekily roasting Irwin for skipping out on the Earthshot Prize Awards in Rio earlier this month.
“Oh my goodness! How was Rio?” Irwin asked, to which William replied that the ceremony went “really well” and that they were both doing great things. Well, if William had a hand in stripping Andrew of his title and booting him from the royal digs, I guess I’d have to agree there!
“We’re missing you, Robert,” William said. “Whilst your twinkle toes are going off elsewhere, I need you down here.”
Before hitting the D-floor, Robert dedicated the dance to his sister and his unexpected royal pal: “We are doing this dance for Bindi [Irwin], and we’re doing this dance for Prince William. So, let’s not mess this up”.
Punters were quick to flood social media with confused comments, wondering why the future King of England was suddenly popping up on an American reality TV show.
Many couldn’t wrap their heads around seeing Prince William swap royal duties for a Dancing With The Stars cameo, with some joking that the timeline had officially glitched.
Others were just straight-up baffled, asking if it was real or some kind of deepfake moment.
