Isla Fisher Pays Tribute To ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’ Author Sophie Kinsella: “My Heart Is Broken”

Following the death of Shopaholic author Sophie Kinsella, Isla Fisher is paying tribute to the woman who created one of her breakout roles.

On Wednesday, the actress grieved Kinsella’s death with a heartfelt statement, more than 15 years after starring as shopping addict Rebecca Bloomwood in Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009), which was based on the series of novels that ultimately spanned from 2000 to 2019.

“You conjured Rebecca Bloomwood, a hilarious flawed dream of a comic character – and I was lucky enough to step into her shoes and speak your witty & brilliant words,” she wrote on her Instagram Story.

“My daughters grew up being read your books and love them to this day. My heart is broken. You are still my hero, and I’m grateful for you,” added Fisher. “And though we won’t meet again, your light and magic lives on in your incredible characters.”

Kinsella, who also wrote under her real name Madeleine Wickham, died at age 55 on Wednesday morning after suffering from a rare form of aggressive brain cancer, her family announced on her Instagram.

“We are heartbroken to announce the passing this morning of our beloved Sophie (aka Maddy, aka Mummy),” they wrote. “She died peacefully, with her final days filled with her true loves: family and music and warmth and Christmas and joy.”

Kinsella’s final book, What Does It Feel Like? was a semi-fictional story her experience living with cancer.
