Israel-Iran live: Iran says ceasefire has begun after Trump announces ‘complete and total’ halt to 12-day war

A “complete and total” ceasefire declared by Donald Trump in the conflict between Iran and Israel has begun, according to Iranian state media, despite a final flurry of missiles targeting Israel.

At least four people were killed in Israel’s Beersheba on Tuesday morning, hours after the US president claimed Israel and Iran had agreed to a truce that would begin at around midnight Eastern time.

Iran said as long as Israel stopped attacks by 4am (local time), Tehran would halt its own offensive operations. However, nearly an hour after that deadline, Israel’s military sounded sirens and claimed Tehran fired multiple waves of ballistic missiles.

A White House official told the Associated Press that Mr Trump brokered the ceasefire deal in a call with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel had agreed so long as Iran did not launch further attacks.

Israel has not commented publicly on the ceasefire deal yet.The apparent truce comes after Iran launched missile strikes on a US base in Qatar on Monday, part of its avowed revenge against Washington for bombing its facilities at Fordow, Isfahan and Natanz the previous day.
