Ivanka Trump made a cultural faux pas on Tuesday as she celebrated Chinese New Year with her Instagram followers.
Trump took to the social media platform to share stunning new headshots of her wearing a cream-colored suit and large diamond stud earrings, as she wished her following a happy Lunar New Year.
However, it turns out that wearing white on the Chinese New Year is extremely discouraged.
White represents mourning as it’s the color that people in Vietnam and China commonly wear to funerals.
The color is often associated with symbols of loss and can be considered a bad omen.
In fact, Glamour UK previously reported that wearing white on Lunar New Year was the ‘ultimate faux pas.’
Instead, red is considered the color to wear on the Lunar New Year, as it represents luck, prosperity and blessings.
In her message to followers, Trump, 44, revealed how she is planning to spend 2026, the Year of the Fire Horse.

‘Today a new lunar cycle begins!’ the mom-of-three began in the caption of her post.
‘The Year of the Fire Horse calls us to courage, to energy, to intention, and to fearless creation. It is a year for bold ideas, decisive action, and turning vision into something enduring,’ she wrote.
‘I am stepping into it with clarity and conviction, ready to bring forward projects I have been quietly nurturing, ideas nearly ready to meet the light. I cannot wait to share them with you!’ her message read.
‘Forward, with strength. With gratitude. With purpose. Excited for what is ahead. Happy Lunar Year 新年快乐.’
But viewers were quick to call her out for the error with some branding her ‘culturally insensitive and ignorant.’
‘Ever inappropriate, Ivanka,’ one scathed.
‘Why’s she acting like this is her culture?’ another added.
‘They are so tone deaf that it’s almost comical,’ someone else typed.
