Julia Fox is sticking to her guns after her choice of Halloween costume made the internet do a collective double take this week.

The model and author rocked up to Julio Torres’ Halloween party in New York on October 30 dressed in what looked suspiciously like Jackie Kennedy’s iconic pink suit — only this one was splattered with fake blood and paired with white gloves and a pillbox hat.

If you’ve seen the photos, you know there was nothing subtle about the reference: it’s the exact look the former First Lady wore on the day US President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963.
Fox’s outfit kicked off a storm of backlash online, with plenty of people calling it everything from “insensitive” to just plain “disturbing”. But rather than backing down, Fox jumped on her Instagram to clear the air about why she did it.
In her Instagram post Fox wrote:
“I’m dressed as Jackie Kennedy in the pink suit. Not as a costume, but as a statement. When her husband was assassinated, she refused to change out of her blood-stained clothes, saying, ‘I want them to see what they’ve done.’ The image of the delicate pink suit splattered with blood is one of the most haunting juxtapositions in modern history. Beauty and horror. Poise and devastation.”
She doubled down, going on to say:
“Her decision not to change clothes, even after being encouraged to, was an act of extraordinary bravery. It was performance, protest, and mourning all at once. A woman weaponising image and grace to expose brutality. It’s about trauma, power, and how femininity itself is a form of resistance. Long live Jackie O.”

So, what does the Kennedy family think? Well, Jack Schlossberg — JFK and Jackie’s grandson — made his feelings crystal clear on X (formerly Twitter):
“Julia Fox glorifying political violence is disgusting, desperate and dangerous. I’m sure her late grandmother would agree.”
His statement was met with plenty of support, and a few people echoed his disapproval in the replies, calling the whole thing “disrespectful”. Others defended Fox and reshared her original statement, arguing she was sparking a conversation rather than making a joke at anyone’s expense.
If you take a scroll through Fox’s Insta comments, it’s a total mixed bag — some followers are dropping heart emojis, others reckon she missed the mark.

For now, Fox’s photos and statement are still live, and it looks like she’s happy to let her controversial costume — and her explanation — speak for itself.
