Lauren Hemp claims England ‘won’t be complacent’ against Wales after Netherlands thrashing as Lionesses target Euro 2025 quarter-finals

Lauren Hemp has vowed that the Lionesses will not be complacent against major tournament debutants Wales as they aim to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the Women’s Euros.
England face their nearest neighbours tomorrow night, knowing that a win would seal progression to the knockout stages and likely set up a clash with either Sweden or Germany.
Wales, ranked 25 places below the Lionesses, are the lowest-ranked team in the tournament and are competing on the major stage for the first time in their history. Despite being all but eliminated, they have been backed by a passionate travelling support in Switzerland.
‘We definitely won’t go into the game complacent,’ said the 24-year-old winger. ‘Wales have done well in this tournament and deserve to be here. We have so much respect for them.
‘They have a lot of great players who I’ve played against week in, week out in the WSL. We’ve looked at their strengths and what we can do to make sure we deliver the best England performance.’
Hemp added that England’s emphatic – and much-needed – 4-0 win over the Netherlands has filled the team with confidence.

‘We were so proud of that performance and the fight we showed to come back after being so disappointed from the previous result,’ she said. ‘It showed resilience and fight from the team and that’s us, that’s what we want to portray.
‘This team is full of experienced players and it definitely will help us going forward. We’re treating each game like a final. Everyone knows what it feels like to play in high-pressure situations and I feel like this group is thriving under pressure.’
