Love triangle rival ‘confesses to stabbing British woman to death in Cambodia in jealous rage over affair with boyfriend’

A romantic rival has reportedly confessed to stabbing a British woman to death in a park in Cambodia’s capital over an affair she was having with her boyfriend.

Jessica Cariad Hopkins, 34, is said to have died from multiple stab wounds in Phnom Penh’s Chamkarmon district just before midnight on Friday.

Local cops arrested Congolese woman Kidikila Nganda Glodie and said they believed that Jessica’s death was likely the result of a grisly love triangle.

The British woman, originally from Harpenden in Hertfordshire, was found lying in a pool of her own blood in the park.

Glodie was found in a salon 1.5miles away from the scene of the murder at 4.30pm local time on Saturday. Footage showed her being arrested by police at the salon.

Local cops revealed that Jessica and Glodie were living together in a rented property in the Chroy Changvar area of Phnom Penh at the time of the death.

On the night of Jessica’s death, the pair rode on a motorbike to the park before getting into a fight.

Deputy Chief at the Criminal Investigations Office Em Vichetr said: ‘According to witnesses, the suspect knocked the victim down and pushed her to the ground.’

He added: ‘The suspect took a knife and stabbed the victim many times in the throat, causing her to die at the scene, before fleeing.’

Local police chief Bun Saty said his force believes Jessica was killed because she was romantically involved with Glodie’s boyfriend.

He said: ‘During the interrogation after her arrest, the suspect confessed that she had killed the victim because she was angry at her for having an affair with her Congolese boyfriend.’

Glodie is expected to be charged with murder, and faces between 10 and 15 years in prison.

Local media reported that police chastised two witnesses to the incident after they livestreamed it to social media.

The two eyewitnesses are said to have later cooperated and were allowed to leave after they were questioned.

The Daily Mail has contacted the UK’s FCDO for comment.
