LSU’s $91m coach Lane Kiffin is grilled over penny-pinching shopping habit in embarrassing viral video

Lane Kiffin was the subject of plenty of controversy after he ditched one SEC school for another. Now, the coach’s shopping habits are causing debate, too.
Kiffin, who became Public Enemy No. 1 in The Magnolia State when he left Ole Miss for LSU, went viral this week after he was caught red-handed ‘stealing’ a shopping basket from a grocery store.
The coach’s daughter, Landry, recorded a TikTok of her father returning from a store with a plastic basket full of food in what seemed to be his house.
She captioned the video, ‘Sent him to the store alone for the first time’ and then added that the 50-year-old’s ‘shopping privileges are revoked.’
Lane, who was seen wearing flip flops, was overheard saying, ‘I don’t get it’ when his daughter shared her confusion. Landry replied, ‘Why did you bring that back?’
The coach, who signed a reported $13m per year contract at LSU then replied, ‘How else was I supposed to carry it? You have to pay for bags! They said you have to pay for bags. And it was self-checkout, so I just-‘.

The video went viral on social media – including on X. Lane replied to one post where the video was featured, saying, ‘Have you not seen how Landry spends money?? Someone has to save some in this family.’
The coach then left numerous hashtags: ‘#ReturnedBasket #SaveEnvironmentNoBags #SetExampleForKids #FlyCommercial #ServeOthers.’
Kiffin left Oxford for Baton Rouge to the tune of a $91m contract and the sound of a bunch of angry Rebels fans.
The deal makes him the second-highest paid coach in the sport, behind Georgia’s Kirby Smart.
But it appears Kiffin tried to stay at Ole Miss as they played in the College Football Playoff. This idea was rejected by the school and Kiffin departed anyway.
