He might not have signed up for Married At First Sight (MAFS) as a participant, but Gia Fleur’s bestie Wil Thompson became an instant fan favourite following his brief appearance on the reality show.
The “Man of Honour” went viral thanks to his sassy one-liners, three-syllable pronunciation of the word “hello” and hilarious tiff with the bride on the morning of her wedding — including calling her a “drama queen”, a “bridezilla” and “not Mariah Carey”.
Viewers and ex-participants alike immediately fell in love with the certified diva (who many compared to Chris Lilley’s Mr G character from Summer Heights High) and demanded to see more of him on screen.
“Can we get this guy his own spin-off show?” one person wrote, while another agreed, “Why didn’t they cast him for the show? I want a whole season”.
Wil confirms he will return to MAFS
Well, it seems like fans will soon be getting their wish — sort of. Wil has confirmed to PEDESTRIAN.TV that he will make another appearance on the show later this season during Family and Friends Week, which couldn’t come soon enough, tbh.
“Don’t worry, I’m back, guys!” he said. “It was a different environment from the wedding. I feel like a lot of the jitters had settled, and I was just more excited.”
He continued: “I had spoken to Gia heaps, obviously, during filming. She was allowed to confide in me a little bit, which was good for her just to be able to have a friend, so she wasn’t just talking to the people on the show. But yeah, getting to come back is different and obviously Scott [McCristal] had his friends come too.”
Wil went on to say that he immediately fell in love with Gia’s husband Scott when he met him at the wedding and thought he was “really genuine”.
“When we were sitting there watching the wedding, we were really like, oh my god, it’s a perfect match. We were really happy, and Scott’s lovely. He is a nice guy, so it was just exciting,” he said. “I’m a mega fan of the show, like everyone is in Australia, but I was really happy that they found that balance, the yin and the yang kind of vibe.”
The fact that Wil returns for Family and Friends Week is low-key a huge spoiler that Gia and Scott make it far in the experiment, but we’ll have to wait and see how loved up they are at that point!

Wil reacts to his sudden internet fame
With MAFS being known for having one of TV’s strongest fanbases, Wil admitted that he was nervous about how viewers would react to him on the show.
“I actually thought everyone was gonna fucking hate me, to be honest. I was like, no one’s gonna really understand my sense of humour or how me and my friends are,” he laughed.
“Honestly, we went in as ourselves. None of it was scripted. I was laughing because someone’s like, ‘He’s a paid actor’. I’m like, well, can someone fucking pay me? I’m waiting for that money!”
As for demands that Wil should land his own reality show or appear as a participant on a future season of MAFS, he confessed that nothing is off the table.
“I don’t think MAFS is ready for me, but I would give it a red hot crack,” he said. “I was a Big Brother OG fan, so I’m like, put me in a house with 12 strangers, I’d fuck them up.”
Give the people what they want, goddammit!
