Man United ‘line-up two Premier League stars’, including an England international, as plan B in case they fail with Bryan Mbeumo move

Manchester United have reportedly identified two players as possible alternatives for Bryan Mbeumo if they are unable to sign the Brentford forward.

After already sealing the £62.5million signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves, Mbeumo emerged as United’s top target this summer.

United have already lodged an offer to Brentford worth £55m for the 25-year-old Cameroon international, who scored 20 Premier League goals last season.

But Brentford rejected that bid as they value Mbeumo closer to £70m.

United now face the very real possibility of missing out on Mbeumo due to interest from Tottenham Hotspur, who can offer him Champions League football and the chance to continue working with former Brentford boss Thomas Frank.

According to ESPN, if United fail to land Mbeumo then they will likely turn their attention to other options including Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo and Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze.

Semenyo, 25, and Eze, 26, have both also been linked with Spurs this summer but it is understood that Frank’s priority is to get Mbeumo.

Winger Semenyo, who can also play through the middle, scored 11 goals and provided five assists in 37 Premier League outings for Bournemouth last season.

Meanwhile, Eze — operating from a central attacking midfield position — delivered eight goals and eight assists in 34 league games for Palace.

Eze also played a key role in Palace’s FA Cup triumph by netting four times in five games, including scoring the winner in the final against Manchester City.

After ending last season on a run of seven goals in seven games for Palace, Eze was called up by England boss Thomas Tuchel.

He featured as a sub in last weekend’s 1-0 win over Andorra, before playing the full 90 minutes in Tuesday’s 3-1 loss to Senegal.

Eze now has 12 senior England caps to his name, having made his debut under Gareth Southgate back in 2023.

United finished below Palace and Bournemouth in the Premier League last season.

Bournemouth ended the campaign in ninth place with 56 points — three more than Palace, who came 12th.

Meanwhile, United ended up 15th, which was the club’s lowest league finish since 1974.

After losing to Tottenham in last month’s Europa League final, United will not compete in any European competition next season.
