Michelle Obama sparks backlash for appearing on Jimmy Kimmel show just hours after friend Rob Reiner found dead

Michelle Obama is facing backlash after appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! just hours after her friends, Rob Reiner and wife Michele, were found dead in their home.
The former First Lady, 61, was a guest on the late-night show on Monday night, where she revealed that she and Barack Obama were meant to have dinner with the couple on Sunday, only to discover they had been killed in their Los Angeles home.
‘We’ve known them for many, many years. And we were supposed to be seeing them that night, last night, and we got the news,’ she explained to the show’s host.
While many were sympathetic to Michelle’s loss, others found it odd that she made a TV appearance immediately after she found out her friends had been killed.
‘She has to be making this up because I refuse to believe a normal person would be on a late night talk show the day after their dinner guests were brutally murdered,’ one user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
‘If I found out a dinner guest died, I’d be in bed clutching my blanket,’ agreed someone else.
‘That’s next-level professionalism or denial,’ remarked another.
A fourth person wrote: ‘I’m struggling to understand the optics. Going on a late-night show the next day feels wildly disconnected from the gravity of what happened.’

‘If they were that close of friends, she wouldn’t have been able to go on TV.’
However, other people pointed out that everyone grieves differently.
‘One of Rob’s best friends was on CNN yesterday, just a day after his murder. Everyone grieves differently. For some, routine is better to cope with tragedy,’ someone wrote. ‘When Princess Diana died, the family took her sons to church like it was just another Sunday.’
‘Public figures often appear on TV after personal tragedies,’ someone else said.
On Monday night’s show, Michelle went on to hit out at Donald Trump for blaming Reiner’s death on ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome,’ after he shared a furious tirade on Truth Social.
Hollywood celebrities and Republicans pushed back on his statement, with some calling it ‘disgusting and vile.’
‘Let me just say this, unlike some people, Rob and Michele Reiner are some of the most decent, courageous people you ever want to know,’ Michelle declared on the show, addressing the post. ‘They’re not deranged or crazed.
‘What they have always been are passionate people in a time when there’s not a lot of courage going on. They’re the kind of people who were ready to put their actions behind what they cared about.’

Reiner, 78, and Singer, 70, were found knifed to death by their daughter at their $13.5 million Brentwood mansion on Sunday
‘And they cared about their family, and they cared about this country, and they cared about fairness and equity – and that is the truth,’ she said, declaring: ‘I do know them.’
Reiner, 78, and Singer, 70, were allegedly knifed to death at their $13.5 million Brentwood mansion on Sunday.
Dramatic photos emerged Monday night showing the moment the Reiners’ son, Nick, 32, was arrested at a Los Angeles subway station in Exposition Park, 15 miles from his parents’ Brentwood mansion.
He was taken into custody by the LAPD’s robbery homicide division with the help of US Marshals, who were seen pushing Nick in front of a squad car.
Nick made his first court appearance in Los Angeles on Wednesday, facing homicide charges for his parents’ double murder.
He has since been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the killings of his Hollywood legend father and photographer mother.
Prosecutors added special circumstances of multiple murders and use of a dangerous weapon, a knife, meaning that if he is convicted, Nick could face life in prison without the possibility of parole or even the death penalty.
