“I’m starting to get emotional.” So says Miley Cyrus at the beginning of the first trailer for Disney+‘s Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special. The anticipated look-back at the beloved series is set to premiere March 24, 20 years to the day that the show premiered on Disney Channel. You can watch the trailer below.
Filmed in front of a live studio audience, the special features an exclusive, in-depth interview with Cyrus, hosted by Alex Cooper (Call Her Daddy podcast), as well as never-before-seen archival footage. Additionally, some of the most memorable sets from Hannah Montana are brought back to life — including the Stewart family living room and the legendary Hannah Montana closet. Cooper also hosts the special.
“Hannah Montana will always be a part of who I am. What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans, and I’ll always be thankful for that connection,” Cyrus said previously. “The fact that it still means so much to people all these years later is something I’m very proud of. This ‘Hannahversary’ is my way of celebrating and thanking the fans who’ve stood by me for 20 years.”
Hannah Montana ran for four seasons, from 2006-2011 on Disney Channel. It also spawned Hannah Montana: The Moviewhich was released in 2009, grossing more than $155 million worldwide.
HopeTown Entertainment and Unwell Productions produced the special. Ashley Edens serves as showrunner, with Miley Cyrus, Tish Cyrus-Purcell, Alex Cooper and Matt Kaplan as executive producers.
