Miley Cyrus To Dust Off Iconic Wig For Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special Ft. Alex Cooper

In news that heals my inner child, Disney has just announced that Hannah Montana is getting a 20th anniversary special, with both Miley Cyrus and Alex Cooper set to appear.

I guess we really do get the best of both worlds!

The studio described the one-off special, which will be filmed in front of a live audience, as a chance to “celebrate the iconic series that defined a generation — exactly two decades after its Disney Channel debut”. Feel old yet?

Cyrus is of course on board (she didn’t endure years of itchy wigs for nothing), and will sit down for an exclusive and in-depth interview with the Call Her Daddy podcast host to chat all things Hannah, Disney, and hopefully the process behind all those vocal transition ad libs

Taking us even further back in time, the special will also resurrect some of the Hannah Montana sets, including her wardrobe (wig palace) and the family living room.

Oh, we’re also getting never-before-seen archival footage, because no one is better at milking the nostalgia for all its worth than Disney.

Hannah Montana will always be a part of who I am,” Cyrus said in a statement after the special’s announcement, per The Hollywood Reporter

“What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans, and I’ll always be thankful for that connection. The fact that it still means so much to people all these years later is something I’m very proud of.”

Cyrus dug through the Montana archives herself over the weekend, sharing some throwback snaps of herself as the character as well as pics of the episode scripts (AKA the sacred texts).

You probably don’t need the reminder, but Hannah Montana premiered on Disney Channel back in 2006, and became a pop cultural phenomenon which kickstarted Cyrus’ career and ran for four seasons — during which only a handful of characters were able to deduce that Hannah was just Miley’s pop star alter-ego with some haphazardly applied bangs.

Cyrus again looked back at her time on the show for its 15-year anniversary back in 2021, writing an open letter in which she gave “all my love and utmost gratitude” to sitcom counterpart.

I’ve basically been sobbing ever since then, but I’ll need an extra box of tissues when the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special lands on Disney+ on March 24.

To segue out of this, I offer you one of Hannah’s iconic vocal transitions: Ohhh ohh, yeah-eh-eh.
