Mortified footy star’s hilarious gaffe that left Danika Mason in stitches

Bulldogs star Viliame Kikau was left red-faced on live television on Thursday night following a post-game interview with Channel Nine footy presenter Danika Mason.

The backrower was a standout in Canterbury’s hard-fought 14-10 win against Canberra at GIO Stadium, as his team maintained their unbeaten start to the NRL season.

Mason finished the interview by saying: ‘Two wins to start the season. It doesn’t get any better than that’.

Kikau’s response left Mason in stitches.

‘Yes sir,’ the Fijian international said, before realising what he had uttered on camera.

‘Oh, yes ma’am. Sorry. My bad.’

He walked off with an apologetic arm gesture while Mason laughed it off by patting Kikau on his torso as he walked off towards the tunnel.

Kikau’s slip of the tongue wasn’t missed by NRL legend Brad Fittler and host James Bracey, who both poked fun at the second-rower.

Mason, 34, attracted headlines at the Winter Olympics after she slurred through three live crosses and rambled about coffee and iguanas, sparking an online uproar.

After issuing an apology the following day, Mason admitted she had been drinking.

She then headed to Las Vegas for the NRL’s season opener – and while in Sin City, Mason had a run-in with customs officials, who viewed her suitcases as ‘suspicious.’

Mason grew up in Sydney’s north-west and began her broadcasting career as an intern in Nine’s newsroom.

In 2012, she was hired as a blogger for the London Olympics, before going on to be handed a permanent position in sport at the network.

Last October, Mason announced she was engaged to former NRL player Liam Knight.

The prop popped the question during a romantic getaway in Europe.
