The Hunting Party fans will have another way to watch the crime drama after Netflix struck a deal with NBCUniversal.
Last week, Netflix revealed that it was planning to expand the number of licensed titles it acquires and the Melissa Roxburgh-led show has become its latest such title to be added to the list following a surprise deal with Paramount for shows including Taylor Sheridan’s Mayor of Kingstown.
The first season of The Hunting Party, which comes from creators JJ Bailey and Jake Coburn, will stream on Netflix from February 15. It was previously streaming exclusively on Peacock. The second season premiered on NBC earlier this month and has a 13-episode order.
The series follows a small team of investigators who are assembled to track down and capture the most dangerous killers our country has ever seen, all of whom have just escaped from a top-secret prison that’s not supposed to exist. Nick Wechsler, Patrick Sabongui, Josh McKenzie and Sara Garcia also star.
It comes from Universal Television with Bailey and Coburn exec producing alongside director Thor Freudenthal and writer Keto Shimizu.
Netflix has been ramping up its library in the U.S. over recent months. Mayor of Kingstown will launch on the service alongside other Paramount series such as Watson and SEAL Team. The streamer also struck a major movie deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment, a $7B worldwide pay-1 licensing deal.
Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarando said that licensing has become easier since the end of 202 and calling the the “more natural state of the business”. “What has happened is that the availability to license has opened up a lot more,” he said at the UBS media conference.
