Neil Patrick Harris has officially been Facetuned into the multiverse, and the worst part is he didn’t even get a say in the edit. Abby Lee Miller, of Dance Moms infamy, posted a selfie with him so aggressively filtered that fans genuinely wondered if she’d soft-launched a completely new man.

Here’s how we got there: Abby went to see the first-ever Broadway revival of Yasmina Reza’s play ART, starring Neil Patrick Harris, Bobby Cannavale and James Corden. She had a fab night, hit the stage door, grabbed pics with the cast and then chucked a carousel on Instagram praising them as “incredible comedic actors” with “impeccable” timing and calling them “such gracious kind gentlemen”, telling everyone that if they “truly want to LAUGH OUT LOUD!!!” they needed to get themselves to @artonbway.
So far, very wholesome theatre kid behaviour. The plot twist was in the visuals.
In one of the selfies, Neil’s face looked like it had been run through a “smooth, blur, sharpen, repeat” cycle about 14 times. His skin was airbrushed within an inch of its life, his features were tweaked, and the overall effect was less “Broadway legend” and was giving Temu-Madame Tussauds wax figure.
Fans immediately flooded the comments asking what she’d done to his face and joking that he’d been “victimised by Facetune” and zapped back to his Doogie Howser years.
Neil naturally dropped into the comments and wrote: “Ummm… what did you do to my face..?”
The comment pulled in thousands of likes and basically became the official statement on being edited into oblivion by someone else’s filter addiction.
Abby replied the next day and gave some real context that made the whole thing feel more human than hostile. She referenced her history with Burkitt lymphoma and the brutal treatment she went through, saying that after “Burkitt lymphoma, 10 rounds of invasive chemo & a big birthday”, she’s “sticking with the filters!” She then told Neil he always looks fabulous anyway according to PEOPLE.
If you’ve followed her over the years, you’ll know she’s spoken openly about being diagnosed with the rare cancer, needing emergency spinal surgery, doing multiple rounds of chemo, rehab, and later celebrating being cancer-free since 2019.
And while I think we should absolutely respect everyone’s individual journeys and Instagrams, I reckon it’s just good manners not to turn someone else’s face into a painting without consent.
