Netflix Reportedly Not Resigning Meghan Markle & Harry Contract

Fresh, scathing royal-tea has been spilled, and this time around, it’s been rumoured that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s £100million (AUD$200million) deal with Netflix has been scrapped.

Per UK publication The Sun, Netflix has reportedly decided not to renew its contract with the royal duo after it expires in September. It also reported that both parties have agreed to keep things under wraps and not make an official announcement regarding the end of the contract.

News of the split comes after the streaming giant released Harry’s sporty passion project, Polo — a five-episode docu-series about professional polo — which only clocked 500,000 views in six months. Meanwhile, Meghan’s lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan, failed to crack Netflix’s top 300 programmes, only reaching 383rd place with 5.3 million viewers.

“The deal is done; no more shows will be made,” an insider told The Sun.

“Netflix feel they’ve got all they can from the couple.

“Netflix were clever in that they got a hell of a lot of viewers for the first documentary series, and knew, realistically, it would prove the zenith of content from the Montecito pair.

“They’re not unhappy with how things turned out — they got those initial hits, and produced one of the most talked-about shows of all time.”

The insider added that there was “no animosity” from either party. However, they claimed Netflix didn’t want to “play second fiddle” to Meghan’s brand, As Ever, which is now her focus.

“Publicly, there will not be a statement, and of course, if things change dramatically, they’d be open to a one-off project down the line,” the source continued.

“But for Harry, especially, this will be a blow. It’s a huge loss of revenue.”

In a cheeky side piece of tea, some experts claimed to the Daily Mail that the streaming giant will want “to keep a vague hand in” with the couple in case Meghan and Harry ever break up, so they can be in first for a post-relationship docu-series. SPICY.

While things might have ended for the Sussexes and Netflix, The Sun reports that Paramount+ could be keen for a cheeky deal.

Neither Netflix nor the Sussexes have responded to the rumours regarding the million-dollar contract.

The second season of Meghan’s wholesome show, With Love, Meghan, is expected to premiere later this year.
