Longtime NHL star Logan Couture has medically been forced into retirement at 36 due to a pelvic disease.
The Sharks have called a press conference for today to announce the news as the NHL hits the final week of its regular season.
Couture spent his entire NHL career with the San Jose Sharks and is one of the most prolific goal-scorers in franchise history.
The pelvic disease, osteitis pubis, is inflammation in the joint between your left and right pubic bones that causes pain and swelling in your groin or lower abdomen, per the Cleveland Clinic.
The clinic also states the disease affects ‘people who are especially active or athletes who use their core and hips to twist, kick or suddenly change direction’, with hockey listed among the most common sports where it occurs.
