Percevit laser system: mysterious lights in the sky of Ukraine raises speculation about an advanced Russian weapon

The appearance of mysterious lights in the sky of Ukraine raises questions about the possibility of Russia to use the advanced “Percevit” satellite system, amid the absence of any official confirmation from Moscow or Kiev.
Arab Defense website – August 28, 2025: In recent days, social media platforms have spread through controversial images – according to what their publishers claim – in the sky of Ukraine, showing shiny light columns in a white yellowish color, which extended in the sky uncommonly. This mysterious phenomenon sparked a torrent of speculation, especially in the absence of any official comment from the Russian or Ukrainian sides, which opened the door wide to multiple interpretations, some of which go to the possibility of its association with experiences of a sophisticated Russian weapon.
The most traded hypothesis has linked these lights to the activity of the Russian -satellite -satellite laser system known as “Peresves”, which is one of the most prominent secret projects revealed by Moscow in recent years. The system, which falls within the category of anti -satellite weapons (ASAT), depends on directing high -energy laser rays towards anti -satellite to disrupt its work or paralyze its ability to collect intelligence information, giving the Russian army a strategic tool to protect its sensitive locations and biomedically.
The name “Percevit” appeared for the first time in 2017, when he was announced in a limited way, before participating in field exercises in 2018, then confirming his introduction to the combat service in December 2019 with five combat teams belonging to the Russian army. This development was then a clear indication of Russia’s move from the stage of experiments to practical operation, at a time when military competition for space between the major powers is escalating.
According to data published in Russian and American sources alike, “Percevit” has remarkable capabilities; It can target satellites at altitudes ranging from 200 to 1100 km, with a circle of diameter ranging between 130 and 180 km. It can also be directed in a wide height angles starting from 21 degrees and up to 155 degrees, which gives it flexibility in the face of multiple goals in different orbits. Besides, the system is characterized by its ability to work independently without the need for a permanent connection to central stations, which makes it an effective tool within the Russian arsenal to counter spy satellites and monitor space activity.
In light of these data, questions have increased about the reality of the phenomenon in the sky of Ukraine. Was they just natural light phenomena or visual repercussions, or are they already preliminary signs of “Percevit” in an operational environment close to the conflict arena? The absence of official answers increases mystery, while analysts believe that the mere circulation of the hypothesis of the use of this advanced weapon sends an implicit message from Moscow to the West, that the field of conflict is no longer confined to the land, the atmosphere and the sea, but also extended to space, as the satellites have become possible goals in the ongoing battle.
