Phil Mickelson claims California fraud scandal makes Minnesota’s look ‘amateur’ as he predicts end of the Democrats
Golf icon Phil Mickelson has launched a blistering attack on his home state of California and claims its widespread fraud will make Minnesota’s Somali scandal look ‘amateur’ in comparison.
The federal government has frozen all child care funding for the state of Minnesota after a video from YouTuber Nick Shirley went viral, in which he alleged that a dozen daycare centers in Minneapolis – mainly operated by Somali residents – were receiving funding despite not actually providing any service.
President Trump has since called Minnesota ‘a hub of fraudulent money laundering activity’, but also warned on social media: ‘There is more FRAUD in California than there is in Minnesota, if that is even possible.’
He added: ‘When you add in Election Fraud, then they are tied for first. Two Crooked Governors, two Crooked States!’
Mickelson, himself a Trump supporter, has now taken to social media to join the pile-on, backing the president and slamming California Governor Gavin Newsom.
‘Every Californian owes a huge debt of gratitude to President Trump and the entire administration for overriding Gavin’s self destruction and sabotage of our state’s energy infrastructure,’ he wrote, adding: ‘Still much more to do in spite of our Governor but it’s a good start.’

In a follow-up tweet, he said: ‘The dilemma for all Democrats is if you stop the fraud, illegal immigration, and voter fraud in CA, then Republicans win CA and have a huge majority throughout the country. The Democrat party all but ends.’
On Friday night, he then continued his charge with a third post, writing: ‘Legitimate question. We know CA government commits $billions in fraud every year.
‘When we pay our taxes knowing it is directly funding fraudulent entities, does that make us complicit? Don’t pay and go to jail. Pay and you’re funding the biggest government fraud in the country.’
In December, a federal grand jury indictment accused Newsom’s former chief of staff Dana Williamson of campaign fraud.

It is alleged she, along with four other co-conspirators, funneled $225,000 from a dormant Xavier Becerra campaign account, and falsely claimed more than $1.7m in fraudulent business expenses on her taxes.
Among the purchases she allegedly made were a chartered jet, a $170,000 birthday trip to Mexico and a $15,000 Chanel bag.
Upon learning that she was under federal investigation, Newsom’s office placed her on leave in November 2024. She formally quit a month later.
