Putin accuses Europe of spreading ‘hysterical horror stories’ about a Russian invasion after France and Germany warned of possible attack

Vladimir Putin has today accused Europe of spreading ‘hysteria’ and ‘horror stories’, after France and Germany warned of a possible Russian attack.

Speaking in China during a visit, Putin said claims by European leaders that Russia would one day attack deeper into Europe were ‘hysteria’ and ‘horror stories’.

Yesterday, French hospitals were ordered to make preparations for an imminent war in Europe while Germany said it is on alert for Russia‘s military drills.

France’s ministry of health told health bodies across the country to prepare for a possible ‘major engagement’ by March 2026.

The French government is reportedly predicting a scenario where the nation would become a supporting state that has the capacity to take a massive number of wounded soldiers from France and other European nations.

Meanwhile, Germany’s chief of defence Carsten Breuer said NATO and his nation’s forces will be on alert ahead of Russian military drills.

Breuer said that though he doesn’t expect Vladimir Putin’s forces to attack NATO territory as Russia conducts military training in Belarus with the Zapad 2025 exercise, his nation would ‘be on… guard’.

The Russian despot also claimed that Moscow had never opposed Ukraine’s potential membership of the European Union, and that he thought it was possible to find a consensus on ensuring the security of both Russia and Ukraine.

In the case of Ukraine in 2022, Russia was forced, said Putin, to react to what he called the West’s attempt with the help of the NATO military alliance to try to absorb the entire post-Soviet space given its security implications for Moscow.

‘As for Ukraine’s membership of the EU, we have never objected to this,’ Putin told Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico at talks in China.

‘As for NATO, this is another issue.’

Putin said that he had discussed Ukraine’s security at his August 15 summit in Alaska with US President Donald Trump.

‘There are options for ensuring Ukraine’s security in the event of an end to the conflict,’ Putin said.

‘And it seems to me that there is an opportunity to find consensus here.’
