Noting that technology is rapidly changing, the minister said that a country that deploys technology quickly stays ahead. “Any tech that is new today may become irrelevant in four-five years. Therefore, in today’s times, especially on the battlefield, we must move forward keeping in mind the theory of ‘survival of the fastest’ and not just ‘survival of the fittest’,” he said.
He also called on the DRDO to work closely with the public and private sectors to quickly deploy technology to the armed forces and suggested that it should not get into areas where capacity already exists in the private sector.
Singh said that reducing the time between research and prototype, prototype and testing, and testing and deployment is of utmost importance, in the current geopolitical scenario. “Timely induction in the armed forces should be the biggest parameter of our performance,” he said.
