The IED-fitted i20 car, allegedly driven by Dr Umar Nabi, is seen crossing several locations across the capital on Monday. A man named Tariq, from south Kashmir’s Pulwama district who had given the car to Nabi, has been arrested, as per officials. The CCTV footage has revealed that the car was first seen outside the Asian Hospital in Faridabad at around 7:30 am on Monday.
At 8:13 am, the car crossed the Badarpur toll plaza and entered Delhi, and shortly after it was spotted near a petrol pump close to the Okhla Industrial Area at 8:20 am. The car entered the parking area near the Red Fort complex at 3:19 pm, where it remained parked for around three hours. The car exited the parking area at 6:22 pm and moved towards the Red Fort.
Soon after its exit, at 6:52 pm, a powerful explosion occurred inside the moving car. Police said the CCTV footage of the car that exploded showed a “masked man” driving the car. Multiple teams have been deployed to scan CCTV from the vicinity of the Fort and adjoining routes, officials added.
Umar was part of the Faridabad terror module busted on Monday, according to officials. The other suspects include Dr Muzammil Ganaie and Dr Shaheen Sayeed, both connected to the Al-Falah University in Faridabad, from where 360 kg of ammonium nitrate was recovered. According to investigators, Shaheen headed JeM’s women recruitment wing, Jamaat-ul-Mominat, in India.
Four people have been detained during raids in Kashmir. Two have been shifted for joint interrogation for their role in the blast as well as interstate terror module. An FIR has been registered under various sections of UAPA, Explosive Substances Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.- With Agency Inputs
