Robin Wright calls move out of US ‘liberating’ with her ‘sweet’ architect boyfriend

Robin Wright has called her move from the US to the UK ‘liberating.’

The star, 59, moved to England a few years ago, where she met her British-born Australian boyfriend, Henry Smith.

‘America is a s*** show,’ the Texan-born actress declared to The Sunday Times on Saturday.

‘I love being in this country. There’s a freedom of self here. People are so kind. They’re living. They’re not in the car in traffic, panicked on a phone call, eating a sandwich. That’s most of America. Everything’s rush, competition and speed.’

Robin’s breaking point was waking up to her LA neighbors’ home renovations: ‘Everyone’s building a huge house and I’m just done with all that — I love the quiet. And I’ve met my person. Finally.’

It’s been nearly a year since Wright met the 52-year-old architect in a Chilterns pub not far from the latest Airbnb she rented with her stepsister Lucinda Carmichael.

‘Henry was standing at the bar, 6ft2in, and he put his pint down, came over to me and grabbed my shoulders,’ the Here actress recalled.

Like a lot of American celebrities, Robin Wright decided to move to England a few years ago where she met her British-born Australian boyfriend, Henry Smith (pictured June 17)

‘He goes, “Who the f*** are you?” And I said, “Who the f*** are you?” And that was it.’

Robin gushed: ‘He is a sweetheart and just a good, decent adult. He’s a man.’

The loved-up couple – who quickly bonded during their five-month COVID-19 battles – plan on moving to a rented home in the English seaside with Labradors Rusty and Rocky.

‘It’s liberating to be done. Be done with searching, looking and getting 60 percent of what you wanted,’ Wright explained.

‘That’s exactly what I wanted. I’m turning 60 and I’m, like, “Is this it?” I love being alone and I’ve done that many times. But I’m, like, I want to grow old with somebody, and travel and see the world.’

The Pour Les Femmes co-designer said it was ‘so relaxing’ to be ‘seen and loved for who I am’ but getting married a fourth time is absolutely out of the question: ‘No. God no. Why? That’s just unnecessary.’

Indeed, Robin filed for divorce from her third husband – Saint Laurent VIP relations manager Clément Giraudet – in 2022 after nearly four years of marriage.

Wright has two children – daughter Dylan, 34; and son Hopper, 32 – from her on/off 13-year marriage to second ex-husband Sean Penn, which ended in 2010.

The Golden Globe winner was also previously married to her Santa Barbara castmate Dane Witherspoon, but they ended their two-year marriage in 1988.

But Robin is still ‘trying to figure it out’ England’s class system: ‘Why are you guys so obsessed with who went to this boarding school or this university? Who gives a s***?’

Wright executive produced and stars as suspicious, overprotective mother Laura in the six-episode psychological thriller The Girlfriend, which premieres September 10 on Amazon Prime Video.

‘It’s about two women fighting over the same love. It’s a tug-of-war,’ described the eight-time Emmy nominee, who directed the first three episodes.

‘I felt like that with a couple of girls my son brought home, where I was, like, “No, this is not going to work.” And it didn’t work, thank God. You’re always going to have that intrinsic mummy radar.’

Gabbie Asher and Naomi Sheldon’s small-screen adaptation of Michelle Frances’ 2017 novel also stars Olivia Cooke, Laurie Davidson, Waleed Zuaiter, Anna Chancellor, Francesca Corney, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Karen Henthorn, Leo Suter, and Tanya Moodie.
