Roosters recruit Reece Robson could make shock debut against Penrith Panthers despite thumb injury
NSW hooker Reece Robson is a chance to be a shock inclusion for the Roosters in their blockbuster clash against Penrith in what would be a sooner-than-expected return from injury.
The Roosters announced on February 19 that Robson had suffered a fractured left thumb at training and was expected to be sidelined for up to two months. But sources not authorised to speak publicly have told this masthead that the former Cowboy could cut that timeline in half.
The Bondi Junction outfit is hopeful Robson could be available after showing few ill effects at training in what would be a huge boost ahead of Friday’s clash with the Panthers.
Should Robson pass a fitness test, it’s likely promising dummy half Benaiah Ioelu will make way from the team. Another Blues star, Connor Watson, also gives the team hooking cover.
It would mark the first time that the much vaunted new-look Roosters spine of James Tedesco, Daly Cherry-Evans, Sam Walker and Robson would play together.
