Search underway for missing 18-year-old who vanished while swimming at popular holiday beach

A teenager has gone missing while swimming at a beach on the NSW Mid North Coast.
Emergency services were called to Little Bay Beach at Arakoon, in the South West Rocks area about 4.20pm Sunday following reports an 18-year-old man was in trouble in the water.
Officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District responded, alongside Marine Area Command officers and Surf Life Saving NSW.
Authorities conducted a search of the area, but tragically were unable to locate the young man.
The Westpac Rescue helicopter was brought in to scan the water from overhead.
It is understood the crew spotted a shark and bait fish in the area.
The search was suspended on Sunday evening and will resume at first light on Monday.
The beach is situated between granite cliffs and is a well-known picnic and fishing spot popular with holidaymakers.
The beach is situated in the Arakoon National Park with National Parks NSW warning warning that Little Bay Beach is ‘not patrolled by surf lifesavers’ and is ‘not recommended for swimming’.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
