The security guard at the centre of the scandal between Chappell Roan and Jorginho Frello‘s family has broken his silence, taking responsibility for the viral interaction.
ICYMI, the “Pink Pony Club” singer has been embroiled in controversy following an “upsetting incident” involving a security guard and Frello’s wife and 11-year-old Ada daughter last week.
The security guard involved in the incident has since been identified as Pascal Duvier who has since taken “full responsibility” for the ordeal.
Per Daily Mail, Duvier was previously the head of Kim Kardashian‘s security team, and was in charge of the star’s security at the time of her Paris jewellery heist in 2016.
“I do not normally address online rumours, but the accusations currently circulating are false and constitute defamation,” he began in his Instagram post addressing the incident.
“I take full responsibility for the interactions on March 21st. I was at the hotel on behalf of another individual, and I was not part of the personal security team of Chappell Roan. The actions I took were not on behalf of Chappell Roan, her personal security team, her management, or any other individuals.”
Duvier went on to write that he approached Frello’s family based on a “judgement call” stemming from “information we obtained from the hotel”, as well as interactions he’s witnessed “days prior” and “the heightened overall security risk of our location”.
“My sole interaction with the mother was calm and with good intentions, and the outcome of the encounter is regretful,” he wrote.
How did the whole Chappell Roan security scandal start?
On March 21 (local time), Frello shared a scathing Instagram Story claiming that a direct member of Roan’s team confronted his wife and his stepdaughter, who was staying at the same hotel as the singer ahead of Lollapalooza Brazil.
“I went through a very upsetting situation with my family earlier today,” Frello began.
“My wife Cat Cavelli is in São Paulo for Lollapalooza Brasil. This morning, my daughter woke up incredibly excited, she even made a sign because she was so happy to see an artist she really admires, or used to admire. @chappellroan.
“By coincidence, they’re staying at the same hotel as this artist. During breakfast, the artist walked past their table. My daughter, like any child, recognised her, got excited, and just wanted to make sure it was really her.
“And the worst part is she didn’t even approach her. She simply walked past the singer’s table, looked to confirm it was her, smiled, and went back to sit with her mum. She didn’t say anything, didn’t ask for anything.”
The pro-footballer claimed that things got heated when a “large security guard” approached them at their table and “began speaking in an extremely aggressive manner to both my wife and my daughter, saying that she shouldn’t allow my daughter to ‘disrespect’ or ‘harass’ other people”.
“My daughter was extremely shaken and cried a lot,” he added.
The claims caused an immense amount of outrage against Roan, with Rio’s de Janiro’s mayor, Eduardo Cavaliere, banning the singer from Todo Mundo no Rio.
A day after the incident sent the internet into a tizzy, Chappell took to her Instagram Stories, stating that the security guard was not a part of her team.
“I’m just gonna tell my half of the story of what happened today with a mother and child who were involved with a security guard who is not my personal security,” she said.
“I didn’t even see. I didn’t even see a woman and a child. Like, I did not. No one came up to me. No one bothered me.”
Roan stressed that she didn’t ask the security guard to approach the mother and daughter and that they didn’t even approach her.
“It’s unfair for security to just assume someone doesn’t have good intentions when they have no reason to believe because there’s no action even taken,” Roan continued before adding that she doesn’t hate fans of her music or children.
Catherine Harding speaks out
As outrage continued online — alongside memes of Chappell interacting with fans and children flooded X and Instagram — Catherine Harding (AKA Cat Cavelli) shared her own video detailing what happened between her and the security guard.
“I wanted to say something because I’m getting so many messages about this now, and honestly, I didn’t realise it would get this crazy,” Harding began.
Harding stressed that “nothing happened” between her interaction with Roan, and that he daughter “just looked at her and smiled”. After that, Harding claimed a security guard approached the table and spoke to them with “a very aggressive tone”, stating that he “berate[d] and scold[ed]” them.
“I feel like it really overstepped a boundary because he is quite an intimidating,” she shared.
Towards the end of her video, Harding said she told the guard that Roan didn’t want to be recognised in public, “she is very welcome to eat breakfast in her room” and that the hotel restaurant was “a public area”.
At the time of writing, neither Frello, Harding nor Roan have responded to Duvier’s statement, and Cavaliere has not rescinded his ban against the “Casual” songstress.
