Although the MCU‘s Blade reboot remains in limbo, a piece of the delayed production ended up in the biggest vampire film of the year.
Sinners producer Sev Ohanian recently revealed a “fun Marvel easter egg” from the Ryan Coogler-helmed horror film, which shared a costume designer with the upcoming Blade adaptation.
“Ruth Carter was working on the Blade movie that ended up not shooting,” he said on the ScreenCrush podcast. “At one point, that movie was going to deal with—and she’s talked about this before—but at one point, that film was going to deal with the past, around the same era as Sinners.”
Ohanian added, “She happened to have a warehouse full of period-appropriate clothes, and it was like, ‘Yo, we got to shoot this movie like tomorrow.’ And Marvel was generous enough and kind enough to let us basically purchase it at price.”
While original costumes were made for the main cast, “a lot of the background actors” ended up styled in the wardrobe from Blade.

Marvel first confirmed the Blade reboot with Mahershala Ali back in 2019, but the project has since been met with multiple delays, including directors Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange’s exits from the film and the 2023 WGA strike.
Last year, Marvel removed Blade from its 2025 release schedule. But Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has since re-emphasized his commitment to the project.
“We love the character, we love Mahershala’s version of him,” said Feige in November. “And rest assured: whenever we change direction with a project, or are still trying to figure out how it fits into our schedule, we let the public know. You’re up to date on what’s going on. But I can tell you that the character will be coming to the MCU.”
