Sport power couple stun as footy great and Channel Seven star make their romance Instagram official: ‘Hardest launch of all time’

AFL great Scott Selwood and three-code sport star Sarah Rowe have stunned footy identities and their friends by going Instagram official with their romance in eye-catching fashion.

The couple posted an image of them hugging on a beach on Rottnest Island accompanied by the caption, ‘Siblings or dating?’ and their followers were overjoyed.

Rowe’s Collingwood AFLW teammate Ruby Schleicher commented, ‘Possibly the hardest launch of all time.’

Triple M Radio’s Ryan Warren wrote, ‘NASA doesn’t even launch this hard!’, with AFLW star Sarah adding, ‘What a launch!’ with a rocket-ship emoji.

Footy great turned Channel Seven star Abbey Holmes and premiership-winning former Eagles star Mitch Brown also offered their congratulations.

The romance is a very welcome bright spot in what has been a devastating year for Selwood and the rest of his famous footy family.

In September, he announced he’ll be stepping away from his role as an assistant coach with Collingwood’s men’s side after his twin brothers and fellow AFL stars Troy and Adam died within months of each other, with both siblings taking their own lives.

Collingwood rallied around Scott Selwood following the death of each brother.

Adam was a premiership player with West Coast, notching 187 games for the Eagles, while Troy played 75 games across six seasons for Brisbane.

‘Twelve years in the system as a player and six as a coach has been some of the best years of my life,’ Selwood said in a statement.

‘It has been a personally challenging year for me so the timing feels right to take some time for myself away from football.’

Selwood was previously engaged to PR executive Morgan Hill, with the former couple making the big announcement in October 2021 after he popped the question at a picturesque winery in Victoria.

The former Eagles star paid tribute to Adam by running a marathon for charity in June.

Selwood had been planning to run in the Big Five Marathon in South Africa but was forced to pull out when Adam died.

Instead, he ran the 42.2km by himself around Melbourne’s Albert Park and raised money for Beanies 4 Brain Cancer.

‘You would have been forgiven if you weren’t up for it today brother,’ Geelong legend Joel Selwood posted to social media, praising his brother.

‘But instead you did it the hardest way possible — underprepared, freezing cold and ran alone against the clock.’

Rowe represented the Republic of Ireland in soccer and also played for Melbourne Victory and the Central Coast Mariners in Australian football’s top tier.

She won the A-League Women’s title with the Mariners in April, just days before she was due to start preseason training with the Magpies.

In addition to playing 64 games for Collingwood since 2019, she also starred in Gaelic football, starring for Mayo in the All-Ireland Ladies’ Football Championship final in 2017.

Rowe, who has done some AFLW commentary work for Channel Seven, also hosts the popular Tagged footy podcast with Sarah Hosking.
