Hawkins’ most closely guarded scripts are finally leaving the Upside Down and landing on bookstore shelves.
The scripts of the first four seasons of “Stranger Things” will release in two volumes this fall, and are now available to pre-order on Amazon. “Stranger Things: The Complete Scripts,” released by Random House Worlds, will give fans access to the full text of each episode along with exclusive introductions and production notes from series creators Matt and Ross Duffer. Presented in paperback, the editions offer an archival look at the hit Netflix series from the inside out, detailing not only dialogue but stage direction and tonal cues that shaped the performances and pacing of the show.
Stranger Things: The Complete Scripts, Season 1
The first four seasons, collected across the forthcoming volumes, begins in 1983 Hawkins, Indiana, with the disappearance of Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) and the arrival of Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), a telekinetic girl on the run from a shadowy government lab. Season 2 picks up a year later as Will is plagued by visions of the Upside Down and the looming presence of the Mind Flayer, while Eleven remains in hiding. Season 3 shifts to the summer of 1985, centering on the newly opened Starcourt Mall as the town’s social hub and the cover for a secret Soviet operation to reopen the gate to the Upside Down.
The fourth season, which released last summer, ended with an all-out battle against the evil Vecna and the Demogorgons in the Upside Down, where the beloved newcomer Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) sacrificed himself to save the gang. Vecna is weakened in the aftermath, but remains powerful enough to spread the Upside Down into Hawkins.
The script release fits into a broader trend in publishing, where on-screen franchises are mined for print products that appeal to collectors — from action figures and tie-in novels to, most recently, these extensive script compilations.
The scripts will release ahead of the show’s highly anticipated final season. Netflix will roll out Season 5 of “Stranger Things” in three parts on Nov. 26, Dec. 25, and Dec. 31, 2025. The entire cast will return for the three-part finale, including Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, David Harbour as Jim Hopper, Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler and Noah Schnapp as Will Byers.
