Study Finds Almost A Third Of Aussie Men Don’t Wash Their Hands After Using The Toilet

Concerning data has revealed that 13 per cent of Australian men and 11 per cent of women don’t always wash their hands after chucking a massive bog in the toot. DISGUSTING.

A survey conducted by the Food Safety Information Council has found that a large percentage of Australians have admitted to not always washing their hands after using the toilet.
Per the Council, it found that 28 per cent of men and 18 per cent of women who took the survey said they didn’t always wash their hands after chucking a piss, and that 13 per cent of men and 11 per cent of women didn’t always wash their hands of a poo.

Lydia Buchtmann, CEO of the Council, described the survey’s findings as “interesting (and disturbing)”, and honestly, we couldn’t agree more — especially on that disturbing part.
“This is really a worry as faeces may contain harmful bacteria, viruses and even parasites,” Buchtmann said of the findings surrounding defecation and handwashing habits in Australia.
Buchtmann went on to highlight another disturbing result stemming from the Council’s survey, which revealed a major concern in food safety.
“If you don’t wash your hands after going to the toilet, you will be spreading the risk of diseases, especially as 43 per cent of men and 49 per cent of women surveyed also admitted that they didn’t always wash their hands before handling food.”
Alongside its findings, the Food Safety Information Council went on to state that people should be washing their hands:
- Before handling, preparing and eating food;
- after touching raw meat, including eggs;
- after using the toilet, attending to children’s or other toileting, and changing nappies;
- after blowing your nose;
- after dealing with animals, such as cleaning up animal pee, poo, vomit or cleaning litter trays;
- and after gardening.
While I’m low-key not surprised with gross findings, I am slightly disappointed because during COVID-19, washing hands properly was like Bible. Did we all just forget??? Or do we need to bring back those hand-washing posters?
The findings surrounding Aussies and their handwashing habits comes shortly after Doctors warned against doom-scrolling on the toilet after a study found that excessive scrolling on TikTok leads to haemorrhoids.
So, with that being said, don’t scroll too much on the toot and wash your hands when ya done!
