Sydney Airport plunges into chaos as thick blanket of fog covers the city

Sydneysiders have woken up to a blanket of heavy fog, causing commuter chaos.

Multiple flights and ferry services have already been cancelled.

Travellers heading to Sydney Airport are urged to check their flight status with the airline.

‘Heavy fog is impacting flights across the network,’ an airport spokesperson said.

Some ferry services east of the Sydney Harbour Bridge have resumed in time for the morning peak period.

‘Allow extra travel time, listen to announcements and check information displays for service updates,’ Transport NSW said.

F3 and F4 ferries are not operating, including all Parramatta River and Pyrmont Bay services.

Commuters are urged to make alternative travel arrangements.

A thick blanket of fog covered Sydney’s skies on Tuesday morning, sparking widespread chaos

Motorists are also urged to take care on the roads.

‘Reduced visibility in fog will make road conditions dangerous,’ a Bureau of Meteorology alert states.

The foggy skies are expected to clear later this morning, with Sydney forecast to reach a top of 21C.

The Bureau of Meteorology’s Dean Narramore told the Today show that recent rain and a lack of wind overnight created the perfect conditions for widespread fog.

‘We saw fog develop along our western and southern suburbs, a few hours after sunset yesterday,’ he said.

‘That just continued to expand overnight and early this morning, and now thick fog is covering all across much of Sydney Harbour out to the airport.’
