Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane weather: Monster rain band to drench almost all states and territories this weekend

Australia will soon be drenched by a torrential downpour, with 80 per cent of the country bracing for wet and wild weather this weekend.
The five-day deluge will see the brunt of the rain fall over parts of southern and eastern Australia, with some areas expected to cop up to 60mm.
The downpour, delivered by one of the largest rain bands in years, has been caused by a low-pressure system colliding with a stream of tropical moisture.
Sydney will receive up to 5mm of rain on both Friday and Saturday, while Brisbane can expect up to 20mm of rain on Saturday.
Forecasters are predicting widespread falls between 10mm and 40mm in central Queensland and NSW over the next four days.
Parts of central Queensland could cop up to 100mm of rain, with Brisbane and Townsville, in the state’s far north, also receiving a rare soaking.
The anticipated rainfall will hit parched areas of Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria for the first time in over two years.
The wet weather this weekend comes in the wake of a 4,000km rain band that drenched residents from Tasmania all the way up to the Cape York Peninsula.
