Teen dies in hospital after being attacked by an out-of-control dog that was killed by police

A teenage girl who was critically injured during a vicious dog attack in the NSW Hunter Valley last week has died in hospital.

Annalyse Blyton, 17, was studying at her friend’s home in Singleton last Thursday morning when she was attacked by a 10-year-old mixed-breed dog, forcing passers-by to intervene.

She suffered serious injuries to her head, neck and body and was airlifted to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.

The 10-year-old boxer-bull Arab-Irish wolfhound cross lived at the home.

The dog was shot dead by police with the consent of the owner, as officers commenced an investigation into the attack.

Police were assisted at the scene by Singleton Council rangers.

NSW Police were notified on Monday that Annalyse has since died in hospital.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

‘Emergency services were confronted with quite a confronting scene,’ Acting Superintendent Justin Cornes previously told reporters.

He praised the efforts of passers-by who intervened.

‘Running into a scene which they didn’t have the full circumstances and to jump in there and remove the dog, which was at the time, very aggressive… [it’s] an incredible act,’ Supt Cornes said.

Annalyse’s mother had earlier paid tribute to emergency responders while pleading with her daughter to fight for life in hospital.

‘Fight with everything you have my baby girl, don’t let this defeat you, you are the most caring, beautiful girl and you have so much love and support to get you through this terrible time,’ Lauren Dening posted online on Friday.

‘The amazing first responders and all the doctors who saved my daughter’s life are amazing and without them I wouldn’t have my baby girl.’

The tragedy comes four years after a five-week-old baby boy was mauled to death by the family’s pet American Staffordshire terrier on the NSW Central Coast.
