‘The Morning Show’ Stars Reese Witherspoon And Jennifer Aniston Tease Season 4 Dynamic Between Bradley And Alex: “We’re In Different Places Now”

SPOILER ALERT: This piece contains spoilers for the first episode of The Morning Show Season 4.
The first episode of Season 4 of The Morning Show has arrived, and though Alex (Jennifer Aniston) and Bradley (Reese Witherspoon) begin the new season apart, they come back into each other’s orbit by the end, albeit with a clash.
“That’s what we do,” Aniston said in an interview with Deadline. “That’s what Alex and Bradley tend to do.”
Season 4 picks up two years after the events of Season 3, which ended with Alex proposing a merger between the UBA and NBN networks versus Paul Marks (Jon Hamm) buying UBA and then stripping it for parts. Alex also walked Bradley to the FBI to confess that she had deleted footage of her brother participating in insurrectionist activity at the Capitol on January 6. Bradley caught the her brother hal (Joe Tippett) on tape because she was there reporting.
“We’re in different places now. [Bradley]’s feeling very tentative,” Witherspoon told Deadline. “She manages to somehow get back onto the network, but she’s not in Alex’s good graces because of the end of Season [3]and how she pulled Alex into her messy life.”
As part of the negotiations from last season, Alex now manages talent as part of her new role at the combined UBN network. When Stella (Greta Lee) and Mia (Karen Pittman) cook up the idea of bringing Bradley back, Alex doesn’t immediately take to it.

“Alex is in a different position in the C suite now, and then Bradley shows up again — that little spitfire — and I am now in a position where I have to make choices that will be good for the network,” Anniston remarked. “And we’re not sure that this is a good move to have her re-approach.”
The move to bring Bradley back into the fold resulted from Alex helping an Iranian athlete, Olympian fencer Roya and her father defect from their country and seek asylum in the United States. The pair subtly hinted to Alex that they wanted to go through with this after she had set up an interview with Roya on “Alex Unfiltered.” Bringing Bradley in shifts the spotlight and gives audiences a distraction.
Jeremy Irons, who plays Alex’s father Martin Levy this season, makes his appearance in the first episode as well when Alex visits him. He is law school professor, and Alex wants to pick his brain about the situation she has just experienced with Roya and her father. While aiding in the drafting of a new consititution for Iraq, Martin helped out an Iraqi translator, but he encourages his daughter to stay out of whatever situation she is alluding to.

“I love talking about Jeremy Irons more than anything. He’s a dreamy human being, a fantastic scene partner. I pinched myself that I got to actually work with him, and I was very excited that they were going to bring in Alex’s father, so we could understand why Alex is who she is,” Aniston shared. “It informs the audience a little bit of why her relationship life is a little bit strained — her relationship with her child, her romantic relationships, her work relationships. She’s a workaholic. Why is Alex who she is? And this [interaction] gives a little peek into the world that she grew up in.”
