The new trailer for Frankenstein just dropped, proving against all odds that Jacob Elordi can, in fact, appear ugly. Well, at least when covered in monstrous prosthetics.

The Aussie heartthrob stars as the infamous monster in the new clip, which arrives ahead of Frankenstein‘s premiere in select cinemas later this month and its broader release on Netflix on next month.
It is directed by Guillermo del Toro, who is known for his creature features like Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy and Best Picture-winner/fish porno The Shape of Water.

Is there a trailer for Frankenstein?
We only get brief glimpses of Elordi as Frankenstein in the new trailer, which arrived on September 18. The actor appears mostly draped in a big cloak in between shots of disembodied eyes being put into a skull, ominous lightning rods, and fiery explosions of gothic mansions.
It marks the most recent insight we’ve gotten into the film, with a handful of posters arriving earlier this year and a shorter teaser dropping last month. Feast your eyes on the new trailer for Frankenstein below:
Who is in the cast of Frankenstein?
Elordi stars opposite the likes of Oscar Isaac, who portrays Victor Frankenstein, and Mia Goth, who takes on the role of the scientist’s fiancée Elizabeth Lavenza. Christoph Waltz will also appear in the film, which is adapted from Mary Shelley’s classic 1818 book of the same name.
The cast is rounded out by Felix Kammerer, David Bradley, Lars Mikkelsen, Christian Convery, and Charles Dance.
As a fun little tidbit, Andrew Garfield was originally set to portray the role of the monster, but had to drop out of the project due to scheduling conflicts during the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes.
What is the plot of Frankenstein?
According to the official logline, the Netflix flick offers a retelling of the story that had your high school English teacher in a chokehold, tracing an “egotistical scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation”.

Del Toro has said his reimagination will delve deeper into the family dynamics than previous adaptations, which have included the OG 1931 movie as well as The Bride of Frankenstein in 1935 and the Gene Wilder-led Young Frankenstein in 1974, among many others.
Frankenstein has already generated a lot of buzz, with Elordi’s name included in chatter about the Best Actor category for the upcoming Academy Awards.
The film also received a 17-minute standing ovation during its recent showing at the Venice Film Festival, which is pretty lengthy even by Venice’s standards.
It’s not the only upcoming Elordi flick that’s got tongues wagging, with the actor also set to appear in Emerald Fennell’s already controversial adaptation of Wuthering Heights alongside fellow Aussie Margot Robbie.
What is the release date for Frankenstein?
We’ll have to wait and see how del Toro’s take on Frankenstein fares when it hits screens, first with the premiere in select cinemas on October 23 and then with its broader release on Netflix on September 7.
In the meantime, spare a thought for your English teacher, who’s no-doubt shaking in her boots right now.
