After years of quiet luxury ruling the runway, this season designers are turning to more out-there aesthetics for inspiration. From statement, feather-adorned skirts at Chanel, to sequined checks at Burberry, it’s clear there’s been a move towards a more-is-more aesthetic.
For those wanting to lean into the maximalist trend in a slightly more wearable way, polka dots are a great place to start. Seen at the likes of Rowen Rose, Dries Van Noten and Jean Paul Gaultier, there was no confusion about the fact that they’re this season’s print du jour.

While polka dot has a distinctively vintage feel about it (Princess Diana, Marilyn Monroe and Julia Roberts are all known for their iconic wearing of the print) this season we’re stepping away from any preppy connotations, instead opting for more chic, timeless takes on the trend.
Most pieces were in classic navy or black, with designers shunning bright colours. Sleek, minimalist shapes were also favoured over vintage-adjacent fit-and-flare silhouettes.

Celebrity-wise, Naomi Watts, Industry star Myha’la Herrold and Scout Willis have all been spotted in the print in recent weeks, while the polka dot Sister Jane coat went viral (and is subsequently now out of stock everywhere) after being spotted on fashion content creator Polly Newman at Copenhagen Fashion Week.

- Mix different sized polka dots together for added interest and to give depth to a head-to-toe outfit in the print.
- Lean towards sleek silhouettes rather anything vintage inspired, like a fit-and-flare dress, as this can feel too preppy.
- Wear ballet pumps with cropped bottoms – a hint of ankle helps elongate the leg.
