‘The Sandman’: Netflix Reveals Return Date, Teaser For Second & Final Season

The Sandman is returning this summer for its second and final season.

Netflix announced it will drop six episodes of the series based on the DC Comic by Neil Gaiman, Sam Keith, and Mike Dringenberg on July 3. The remaining five episodes to stream July 24.

Here’s the logline for season 2: “After a fateful reunion with his family, Dream of the Endless (Tom Sturridge) must face one impossible decision after another as he attempts to save himself, his kingdom, and the waking world from the epic fallout of his past misdeeds. To make amends, Dream must confront longtime friends and foes, gods, monsters, and mortals. But the path to forgiveness is full of unexpected twists and turns, and true absolution may cost Dream everything.”

In January, the streamer revealed there would be no third season for high-concept series. The announcement came amid sexual assault and misconduct allegations against Gaiman, who executive produces the Netflix series with David S. Goyer. Gaiman has denied the allegations.

Apparently, it had been decided before filming began on season 2 that it would serve as the series’ conclusion.

“The Sandman series has always been focused exclusively on Dream’s story, and back in 2022, when we looked at the remaining Dream material from the comics, we knew we only had enough story for one more season,” showrunner Allan Heinberg wrote in a post shared on X back in January. “We are extremely grateful to Netflix for bringing the team all back together and giving us the time and resources to make a faithful adaptation in a way that we hope will surprise and delight the comics’ loyal readers as well as fans of our show.”

Season 2 stars Tom Sturridge, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mason Alexander Park, Donna Preston, Esmé Creed-Miles, Adrian Lester, Barry Sloane, Patton Oswalt, Vivienne Acheampong, Gwendoline Christie, Jenna Coleman, Ferdinand Kingsley, Stephen Fry, Asim Chaudhry, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Razane Jammal, Ruairi O’Connor, Freddie Fox, Clive Russell, Laurence O’Fuarain, Ann Skelly, Douglas Booth, Jack Gleeson, Indya Moore, and Steve Coogan.

The studio is Warner Bros. TV.
