The United States is transferring the missile air defense system “Thaad” from the UAE to Israel

The United States transferred the “Thaad” air defense system from the Emirates to Israel amid an escalation of tension with Iran, while the Pentagon seeks to obtain funding worth $ 3.5 billion to compensate for the intercept -consuming missiles during the last confrontation between Tehran and Tel Aviv.

Arab Defense website – August 24, 2025: Media reports reported that the United States has transferred the missile defense system “Thaad” from the Emirates to Israel, in light of fears of a possible escalation with Iran.

The sources stated that the US Department of Defense seeks to obtain additional funding estimated at about $ 3.5 billion to compensate for the inventory of the objection missile that was consumed during the recent war between Iran and Israel.

It is worth noting that the American air defense system “Thaad” was deployed in the UAE in 2016, after Abu Dhabi became the first foreign country to obtain this advanced system according to a deal concluded in 2011. The agreement stipulated that the UAE be provided with two full systems in addition to 96 objection missiles and advanced radars, which gave it qualitative capabilities in the face of regional ballistic threats. The UAE’s possession of this system is seen as a step to enhance the umbrella of the air defense in the Gulf region, in light of the escalation of security challenges.

The “Thaad” system is one of the most developed air defense systems in the world, as it was designed to intercept short, medium and medium-range-range ballistic missiles during the landing and re-entering the atmosphere. The system is characterized by its ability to destroy the goals depending on the direct kinetic energy without the need for an explosive warhead, which makes it more accurate and safe in terms of reducing secondary risks. Its interception is about two hundred kilometers, while the clash is more than 150 km, which gives it the advantage of dealing with missiles in high layers of the atmosphere. The system also relies on the “AN/TPY-2” radar, which is a radiology, which is a highly capable radar that can monitor and track hundreds of targets simultaneously over distances of approximately one thousand kilometers, which makes “Thaad” a central part of the American missile defense network and its allies.

It is also one of the most developed missile defense systems in the world, designed to intercept ballistic missiles in the landing stage and return to the atmosphere. It is characterized by its ability to destroy targets using direct kinetic energy without relying on explosive warheads, which reduces the risk of side damage.

The system’s objection is about 200 km, while the clash is more than 150 km, allowing it to deal with threats in the upper layers of the atmosphere. It depends on the advanced AN/TPY-2 radar that can monitor and track hundreds of targets at distances of up to one thousand kilometers, and allows the ability to early detection and careful guidance of missiles to intercept targets.

“Thaad” can object at a speed of up to 8 kilometers per second, which makes it able to face short and medium -range ballistic missiles with high efficiency. It can also be integrated into an integrated air defense network with other systems such as “Aegis” and “Patriot”, to provide comprehensive defense coverage against multiple threats.

The article appeared in the United States, transmitting the missile defense system “Thaad” from the Emirates to Israel first on the Arab defense site.
